| Reattach broken solder joint on handrails |
|
|
Two of the solder joints on a electric Tenshodo locomotive blackened handrail
are broken (EF15 No 483).
How does Tenshodo blacken the handrails and underframe? The underframe and the
handrails (and the solder joints) are black and at this stage none of the colour
goes off. So is it paint or is it some chemical process used to blacken the
handrail and underframe?
If a handrail solder joint is broken, should I glue it with cyanoacrylate or re-solder it?
If I re-solder and re-paint the loco, then will the value of the locomotive lose its value?
What is the best way to go?
Where can I find more information on construction and repairing guides of
Tenshodo models? |

I don't know what process was used to blacken the Tenshodo parts, but I would just ACC the handrail joints. That way they are reasonably secure, you won't screw something up in the involved process of trying to remove the coloring, solder and repaint, and it is a lot easier and faster.
I don't think it would affect the value, except, perhaps, to a very few pathologically obsessional types _________________ Dave
