Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. Looks like just the place I've been looking for. After a number of years out of the hobby, I was doing some cleaning and came across some of my old train stuff and the old spark was still there. I need some help on a couple of old united models. First is a United Ma Pa 2-8-0. I bought this model maybe 15 years ago and it was missing a front pilot. I have one that will fit and looks fine but it's not the right one. If someone has a spare lying around I may be interested. Also the engine was disassembled at one time and I believe there may be a part missing under the smoke box that a screw passes through to attach the frame to the smoke box. The second is a United 2-6-2 "Oregon American Lumber Co. #105". I took this model apart and could use some pictures of the valve gear so I can see how the thing goes back together. I need to replace the tender floor on this model. Someone before me did a really bad job of drilling holes for a speaker.
Thanks for any help

Welcome to the Forum
As just discussed, Precision Scale has just acquired PIA from the estate of the late PFM owner, Don Drew...who was a true blessing to the model rr hobby!
The PIA line was made specifically for PFM imported models. Many (but not all) of the parts were available individually to scratch builders. PSC is now adding the entire line to their catalogues. This includes several hundred patterns that were not normally marketed.
PIA did include many, many pilot castings, so you may inquire at PSC to see if your part is available.
Also check with Cal Scale...they were also a provider of investment cast detail parts for PFM...Cal Scale did have a seperate expanded catalogue of parts for imported models. These were mostly standard patterns modified for specific models. |

Jim,
You don't really have to have an exact replacement for the pilot, you could use a lost-wax casting of a footboard pilot, available form PSC, Bowser, or eBay.
As to the valve gear arrangement on the 2-6-2, check out this picture of one of them that I modified many years ago. I updated a lot of the detail, but the valve gear is the same general arrangement as the stock PFM model (although it has clevises and NBW's).
